Richard Osman has done it again。 Another funny, warm-hearted read that kept you guessing until the end。

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review。Oh, what fun! "Time flies when you are living it。" We're back with the Thursdays Murder Club。 The second installment in this charming series picks up the following Thursday after the events of book one。 Elizabeth has received a cryptic message from someone from her past that sets in motion a chain of events involving stolen diamonds, mobsters and murder。 I was delighted to be back with this gang of unlikely amateur sleuths for what was one of my most anticipated books this year。 I found that it not only lived "Time flies when you are living it。" We're back with the Thursdays Murder Club。 The second installment in this charming series picks up the following Thursday after the events of book one。 Elizabeth has received a cryptic message from someone from her past that sets in motion a chain of events involving stolen diamonds, mobsters and murder。 I was delighted to be back with this gang of unlikely amateur sleuths for what was one of my most anticipated books this year。 I found that it not only lived up to its whip-smart, richly crafted and brilliantly written predecessor, but surpassed it。 The secret? Feeling like you’re reconnecting with old friends。 Not only did it feel like I was right there with them, but I felt like I could be part of the gang。 Ok, maybe not one of the actual Thursday Murder Club, but an outside helper like police officers Chris and Donna, who are also back to help this intrepid quartet in their investigations。 Pensioners behaving badly is something I will never tire of reading, especially when it’s done this well。 The characters are authentic, intriguing and memorable; each having that spark that makes you take them into your heart。 Then when you add in the camaraderie, loyalty and love they have for one another, you have the perfect mix that just makes you want to keep reading about these people。 I loved how their bonds of friendship had been strengthened by the events of book one, and seeing how both their antics and friendship with one another has impacted them individually。 Joyce in particular shone out for me in this installment and has become my favourite member of the Thursday Murder Club。 Cosy, comforting, witty and uplifting, reading this book is like a warm cup of tea on a cold day。 Once again Richard Osman has knocked it out of the park with his masterful storytelling, dynamic characters, vivid world-building and funny dialogue。 It is these things that make this series feel so fresh and stand out from the crowd in the saturated crime and cosy mysteries market。 It was a joy to read, allowing the author to take me on a wild and entertaining ride as the story unfolded before me。 I’m already excited about revisiting this lively bunch in book three。 。。。more

Little to folksy for me

Unlike the majority of the the readers, I personally preferred the first book in the series。 I think partly because the quintessentially British parts felt more organic (and less explained to the reader) in the first book, and partly because I preferred the murder in the first one。 I still thought this was a very solid read and an enjoyable book, and I loved reading more about the main characters too。

The Thursday Murder Club is back, and more prepared than ever to handle the chaos that ensues。 Someone from Elizabeth's past pops up unannounced, bringing his baggage along with him (that baggage including a scheme and $20 million worth in diamonds)。 After a few incidents that make it impossible to resist the plot, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim work together once again to solve the mystery。 I thought that the first one was good, but this one was better! It seems like Richard Osman is really coming into his voice, and this series is absolutely charming。 One noticeable difference from the two books is the number of POVs。 The first book was all over the place, and it was a little jarring to have so many POVs in one book。 This book, however, cuts it down and flows a bit better because of it。 I also think that both books do a great job with red herrings。 I don't usually read mysteries, so it may be that, but I didn't see the end coming at all。 As the story was unfolding, I kept thinking, "Yeah, that makes sense," then it would completely flip。 All in all, a great read! It was good to revisit the Murder Club quartet and their foibles and quirkiness。 I did find this second book a bit far-fetched in its plot but I still wanted to know what was going to happen。 It was refreshing to see that Elizabeth was not always right and that Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron had more to offer in solving the mystery。 Was good to see more of Donna and Chris in their private lives rather than just in their police work。Many thanks to Netgalley/Richard Osman/Penguin General UK for a digital It was good to revisit the Murder Club quartet and their foibles and quirkiness。 I did find this second book a bit far-fetched in its plot but I still wanted to know what was going to happen。 It was refreshing to see that Elizabeth was not always right and that Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron had more to offer in solving the mystery。 Was good to see more of Donna and Chris in their private lives rather than just in their police work。Many thanks to Netgalley/Richard Osman/Penguin General UK for a digital copy of this title。 All opinions expressed are my own。 。。。more

Thoroughly enjoyable, although not quite believable at times。 Still it is so entertaining, even the highly unlikely is enjoyable。

I received an ARC of this book via netgalley in exchange for an honest review。 WOW WOW and WOW is all i can say about this one。 Richard Osman's Thursday night murder club of Octogenarians step forward once again to right wrongs and uphold the law whilst not always staying strictly within the letter of the law themselves。Too many authors create a linguistically beautiful narrative populated by badly drawn characters or create living breathing characters who plod through non-events。 The beauty of I received an ARC of this book via netgalley in exchange for an honest review。 WOW WOW and WOW is all i can say about this one。 Richard Osman's Thursday night murder club of Octogenarians step forward once again to right wrongs and uphold the law whilst not always staying strictly within the letter of the law themselves。Too many authors create a linguistically beautiful narrative populated by badly drawn characters or create living breathing characters who plod through non-events。 The beauty of this book (in my view) is that the author has decided not to emphasise either characterisation or narrative but has created a cast of characters who move the narrative forward in unexpected ways。 I love all of the people in this book, they are real, they live just across the street from you and me and they act in many ways the same as those people across the street - but then they have just a little je ne sais quoi to propel them through the book。 I love the depiction of ageing, of dementia, of the fear of never finding your way out of where you are that lie just beneath the surface of this book。 It is about so much more than elderly neighbours trying to solve the latest mystery。 I cannot wait for the next 。。。more

It's rare to merge comedy, character, poignant prose, and a clever plot。 This book does and it does it extremely well。 It isn't perfect but it is exceptional。 It's rare to merge comedy, character, poignant prose, and a clever plot。 This book does and it does it extremely well。 It isn't perfect but it is exceptional。 。。。more

Elizabeth and the gang are back and they are better than ever! Delving even darker into Elizabeth's secret past as her Ex-husband contacts her for help。 Donna and Chris are on a stakeout to catch a well-known villain who is uncatchable and Ibrahim becomes badly hurt in a mugging; but his friends won't let these thugs get away with it, even if the police can't do anything about it, they will。 This book has dead bodies, diamonds and revenge。 What more can you ask for?!I have read the first novel i Elizabeth and the gang are back and they are better than ever! One of the best things about this book is the loyalty and strength in each character; to the 4 geriatrics, the 2 main police officers and even the villains。 Each character has their own unique personality which is light and relatable from arguing over who gets to see the dead body first to which one wants to take revenge。I actually think my favourite character is Stephen (although he is only a minor character) simply because my heart breaks a little with each chapter he is in。 The character I least like is actually Joyce, but I think that's because I don't understand her, and the novel wouldn't be the same without herAnd wow I didn't guess/work out the villain either, which is unusual for me。 I cannot wait for the third, definitely a series I want to continue 。。。more

I really liked the first Thursday Murder Club book and I enjoyed this one even more。 Faster paced than the first and with even more moments that made me laugh and, of course, some heartfelt moments too。 Also reading about the TMC members make me miss my grandparents but in a nostalgic happy sense rather than a melancholy one。

Highly entertaining and amusing - not to be taken too seriously!

These books are such fun, comforting and easy reads - I enjoy them thoroughly! I’m not much of a crime reader, but cosy crime I can get behind

Another cracking read from Richard - love all the characters - the plot twists etc。 Have pre-ordered book 3 already - only sad it will be a year of waiting to read about Elizabeth & Co again。 I hope they are still alive when this book comes out!!
